Polished terrazzo has a high-gloss mirror reflective finish. Honed terrazzo has a smooth, flat matte to satin finish with no reflective gloss. Both processes smooth the stone and remove scratches but deliver completely different aesthetic results. We show samples of both to help you decide.
Honed terrazzo can be slightly more absorbent, making sealing after honing especially important. Once sealed, honed terrazzo is much easier to live with — scratches and marks are far less visible than on a high-gloss polished surface. Most clients who switch to honed say they wish they had done it sooner.
Yes — etch marks on terrazzo caused by acid contact require professional diamond honing to remove. The damaged layer is mechanically removed and a smooth, uniform surface is restored. We then seal the terrazzo to reduce future etching.
