Polished slate has a high-gloss mirror reflective finish. Honed slate has a smooth, flat matte to satin finish with no reflective gloss. Both processes smooth the stone and remove scratches but deliver completely different aesthetic results. We show samples of both to help you decide.
Honed slate can be slightly more absorbent, making sealing after honing especially important. Once sealed, honed slate is much easier to live with — scratches and marks are far less visible than on a high-gloss polished surface. Most clients who switch to honed say they wish they had done it sooner.
